Police arrests 34 in dawn swoop in Bawku

Upper East Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 34 persons on a dawn swoop in Bawku.

Acting upon police intelligence on Saturday, July 24, 2021 the Ghana Police Service embarked on a dawn swoop in the Bawku Division.

A press statement signed by the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service ASP David Fianko-Okyere said the move was to counter security threats usually posed in the Zebilla and Tilli forest areas.

Portions of the statement reads “that some of the robberies on that road are perpetrated by some herdsmen in the towns and villages in the jurisdiction who operates under the guise of shepherding their cattle by pushing them across the road and when motorist stop they rob them at gun point.”

The statement further indicated that apart from the arrest of 34 persons, one gold detector as well as two motorbikes suspected to have been stolen from their owners were seized.

Two of the 34 arrested persons have been identified as part of some five suspected robbers on the police wanted list in the Region.

The Regional Police command assures the public especially residents and commuters of the Bolgatanga Bawku high way of enhanced security strategy including 24 hour robust patrols, snap check point for a routine stop and search ,swoops on suspected criminals in the area to ensure maximum security.

Meanwhile, the police service is urging the pubic to cooperate in volunteering information that will lead to the arrest of criminals in the society.
