Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has presented eighty-five (85) MT motorbikes to some agriculture Extension Officers in the region.

The motorbikes are meant to help the Extension Officers supervise farmers under the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) with support from the Canadian government.

Making the presentation, Mr. Yakubu said extension workers provide an important service to farmers by regular visits to their farms to give them technical advise regarding their farming activities which the motorbikes are meant to facilitate.

He added that the region produces a lot of food crops that feed the nation and economically empowers the farmers and their dependents, therefore, the support of the extension officers will go a long way to increase the yield of farmers and reduce poverty in the region.

Mr. Yakubu cautioned the beneficiaries against drunk riding to avoid accidents on the roads.

He entreated them to put the motorbikes to the purpose for which they were procured.

Upper East Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. Francis Ennor promised that the motorbikes will be carefully and effectively handled by regularly ensuring that they are maintained.

Mr. Ennor said that food production in the region will automatically increase because the extension officers will be able to have regular visits to farmers to provide the needed technical and material support for them to increase their yield.
