District Chief Executive for Bongo in the Upper East Region, Peter Ayinbisa, says he has learnt that the drinking water for residents of Bongo makes women fertile and men sexually active.

A1Radioonline.com monitored comments Mr. Ayinbisa made Monday, on Dreamz FM, relative to reports of high cases of teenage pregnancies in the Bongo District where he disclosed that “Somebody told me a story that the water we drink makes us {men} sexually active and makes the women highly potent.”

Though, Mr. Ayinbisa was not sure of any scientific basis for such claims, he said that a nurse confirmed it was true.

“I don’t know the science of it; but a female nurse told me that it’s true. That the water we drink makes us highly potent and makes us the men sexually active. I don’t know the science of it but this was what somebody told me and I am tempted to believe in it.”

Giving other factors responsible for the high cases of teenage pregnancies in the area and the way forward, Mr. Ayinbisa said “It’s a multifaceted matter and the approaches cannot be one way to solving the problem. The parents have a role to play. The community has a role to play; guidance by teachers for the teenager who are in school; and we as a government- the local assembly has a role to play.”

He therefore called for concerted efforts to help address the situation.
“We are not the only sexually active people in this region- let us restrain ourselves.” Mr. Ayinbisa admonished.
