Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba has posited that the outcome of the petition filed at the presidency by Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) against the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anim-Yeboah was expected.

Lawyer Amaliba said he is not surprised by the response of the presidency to ASEPA’s petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice because that has always been how the Akufo Addo administration handles allegations of corruption.

Lawyer Amaliba was speaking in an interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio questioned why the procedure that was used in removing the former chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei was not used in the case of the Chief Justice $5m bribery allegation petition.

He said the individuals in the country expect those in authority to treat all matters and persons equally when an issue is brought before them but that does not seem to that case with the Akufo Addo government.

Describing the decision by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) not to probe the issues brought before it by ASEPA as a misinterpretation and application of the law because the issues before CHRAJ bothered on administrative misconduct so for the commission to arrogate to itself powers not to probe the petition is unfortunate.

Lawyer Amaliba said individuals who contacted him regarding possible petition against government officials have been advise to keep gathering their evidence and if power changes hands they will get a fair hearing.
