The 11 Mechanized Infantry Battalion has commissioned a headquarters in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Region capital with the aim to counter terrorism and other crime-related issues.
The camp which was initially located at Bazua in the Binduri District has been relocated to the regional capital to strategically position itself well to leverage the Western and the Eastern parts of the region that are assigned to the Battalion.
Brigadier General Moses Aryee, is the General Officer Commanding, Northern Command of Ghana Army Force said they have been undertaking military exercise with the aim of assessing the training of their men as well as give assurance to the citizens of their preparedness to deal with any security threat.
He was grateful to the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, some philanthropists for working in hand with the Military High Command to renovate and putting the place in good shape to be used by the battalion as their headquarters.
Brigadier General Moses Aryee said the military is looking forward for a greater collaboration and cooperation from the population, sister security services to be able to carry their mandate very well.
Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has described the military presence in the regional capital as strategic, appropriate, and timely.
He added that the very fact that the region shares boundaries with Burkina Faso and Togo which are currently experiencing some form of terrorism call for vigilance from the security agencies most especially the military.
Mr Yakubu was hopeful that the presence of the military in the regional capital and other parts of the region will send a strong signal about the security agencies preparedness to deal with security threat especially in recent times that Ghana’s neighbours from the north have been witnessing terrorist attacks.
