The Upper East Regional Capital, Bolgatanga remains the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region; this is according to the Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Dzotsi.

Dzotsi says the region currently has an active number of 25 COVID-19 cases with 51 death since the region first recorded its first case in 2020. 9 of the cases are from the Bolgatanga Municipality and that makes it the epicenter of the virus.

Dr. Dzotsi made this known during impact assessment forum on the theme “Covid-19 Response in Africa: Together for Reliable Information”. It was an initiative of A1 Radio and Media Foundation for West Africa with  funding from the European Union.

The director observed that non adherence to Covid-19 protocols is the cause for the latest rising cases of Covid-19 in the region.

He said people no longer wear facemasks, no hand washing while large funerals are still being organizing large.

Dr. Dzotsi urged residents of the Upper East Region to continue to adhere to Covid-19 protocols such as wearing of facemasks, hand washing, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.
