The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bongo constituency of the Upper East Region is set to issue a press statement on the investigative report by Manasseh Azure Awuni of The Fourth Estate.

The Bongo District Assembly, headed by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, has been in the news over reports of alleged acts of corruption relating to the award of contracts to drill and install 20 boreholes in some communities in the district.

But reacting to the investigative report on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Program, the Bongo Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Johnson Anaane, suspects some individuals from within the party were behind the investigative report- in an attempt to put the DCE, Mr. Ayinbisa in a bad light.

He hinted the governing party (NPP) will issue a press statement in the coming days to react to the allegations of corruption.

According to Mr. Anaane, “It’s is so clear that these are people within the NPP fraternity who sat down, planned this thing and executed it. They had to bring in Manasseh to do this kind of dirty work for them. If you look at the whole thing; Madam Diana Aburiya{one of the persons named in the investigative report} who is very interested in the DCE-ship had a lot of issues. At the time they were filing and went to Accra for vetting, there were a lot of people writing petitions against her. So, in an attempt to counter that they had to bring in Manasseh to do this sort of dirty kind of thing.”

“If you look at the whole thing; in what way can we say the DCE committed a crime? Mr. Anaane questioned.

Adding that “Clearly, Manasseh was recruited to come a do a dirty job for somebody who is interested in the DCE-ship. To make the man (Mr. Ayinbisa) look bad to the public and in the eyes of the president.”
