Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, with The Fourth Estate, has indicated that he was unable to establish that either the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga or the Bank Manager of Maltaaba Community Bank, Felix Akwara, benefited from the award of contracts at the Bongo District Assembly.

He said this in an interview on Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio in reaction to his latest investigative piece dubbed “The Bongo Scandal”.

The investigative documentary by Mr. Awuni aimed at exposing an “illegal” award of boreholes contract by the Assembly to itself to the tune of over Ghs200000.00

When asked the role of the political head of the District, Mr. Ayinbisa, in the alleged scandal, Mr. Awuni explained that the DCE holds shares at the bank.

He said “I had some information that he wields some level of influence in the bank. So I asked him, he said he was the director of the bank where the transaction took place, he said he is also a shareholder to that bank and the Board Chairman told me the Assembly owns 30% shares of the Bank”

Adding that “So as a DCE and as a private person who deals with banks, there is some kind of relationship.

Mr. Awuni admitted that he was not able to confirm any interference in the entire transaction at the bank.

” I don’t have that information” he stated.

Meanwhile, responding to as whether the DCE or Bank Manager benefited in the transactions, he said “I cannot state categorically that this person took A, this person took B.”
