A motor rider has been allegedly shot and injured by a police officer who is part of a patrol team at Pusu-Namongo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

A communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdallah Jonathan Salifu, who revealed this on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East programme said the incident happened at a police check- point on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway; near the offices of the Ghana Cotton Company.

He narrated that the victim was riding an unregistered motorbike from the direction of Pwalugu and headed towards Bolgatanga when the police officers stopped him and requested him to produce document to his motor bike.

“So the guy said he left it [document] at home and the police said if he could bring it, they will see what to do. So the rider said instead of taking the motor bike, take his mobile phone so he could ride the motor back home and bring the document. But they didn’t agree and there was this back and forth. So, one of the officers who was sitting in the police vehicle shot the guy in his leg; breaking his leg.” Mr. Salifu recounted.

The victim, who got injured by the gunshot was reportedly rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for medical attention.

Meanwhile, when A1Radioonline.com contacted the Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, ASP. David Fianko-Okyere, he said his outfit will respond to the incident later.

At the time of filing this report, our sources indicate that the victim was still on admission receiving medical treatment.
