The Assemblyman for Dagmeo Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, Issifu Mumuni, has expressed his readiness to keep the newly constructed astro turf football pitch located in his electoral area clean.
Few days ago images of the recently constructed Bolgatanga Astro turf were circulating on social media showing how filth had engulfed the facility with portions of its fence wire broken.
This attracted huge criticisms from many social media users who did not mince words in lambasting authorities of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly for what they described as its failure to take proper care of the Astro turf.
But in an exclusive interview with A1 Radio, Mr. Munmuni explained that a 4-Member Committee was being put in place to outline the measures that should be taken to address sanitation and renting issues while waiting for the contractor to finally prepare the place for handling over.
When asked why the pitch was being used even though the contractor had not handed over the edifice to the Municipal Assembly? he explained that “The contractor has written to the administration that he wants to handover but there are certain things that he hasn’t finished so because of that, they said he should come and finish it. But we begged and the Chief-Director said we should be using it because the town has no pitch; but asked that we use it with care.”
“The auditors came and inspected the pack and said we need lights, dressing room and so on. So they advised us to form a committee of four or five members to be taking money from anybody who wants to use the facility, so I have told my boys to do some invoice for price and paste so that we will use it to manage the place till the official handing over is done. Because they told us that if they come back and we don’t raise anything, it means even if they do it we can’t get anything from it.” He indicated.
The Bolgatanga Astro turf at Dagmweo in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region was one of the initiatives of the then Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development.
