Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said he does not hate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but he (Mr. Ablakwa) was only doing his work.

President Akufo-Addo has recently come under serious criticisms from the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu; accusing the President of wasting Ghanaian taxpayers money on hiring luxurious jets for his foreign trips instead of using the existing presidential jet.

Speaking on the issue in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Ablakwa explained that it will be out of myopic thinking for anyone to assume that he hates the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration or the President; instead, he was just doing his work as a Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament.

“Look, let me say that the work we do in the foreign affairs committee or as Members of Parliament is not personal. We don’t do them because we hate President Akufo-Addo or his Government. It is about the public interest. It is about carrying out our constitutional mandate of accountability. People should understand this. Why will I hate the President?”

Touching on the move by Government to purchase a new presidential jet, Mr. Ablakwa noted that the existing presidential jet was in good shape.

To him, buying a new jet will only indicate the ‘taste’ President Akufo-Addo has for luxury and his readiness to waste public resources which according to him, the minority in parliament will never be in support of.

He went on to call on the public to have trust in members of the minority caucus in Parliament in doing diligent work as they will always keep the Government in check.
