Assembly Members in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region have rejected the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the area, Paul Abugri Azumah.

At the voting to confirm his nomination on Monday, October 4, 2021, the nominee failed to secure the required two-third majority of valid votes cast.

Out of the 25 Assembly Members, 11 of them voted YES, representing 44% whiles 13 voted NO.

There was one spoilt ballot.

Per the Local Government Act, a nominee qualifies for a second round of election if he or she obtains 50 percent or more votes of the Assembly Members present.

The President could however re-nominate a person who failed to secure 50 per cent or more for a second round only on reasonable grounds.

It is not yet clear what the fate of the DCE nominee for Tempane may be, since he failed to obtain 50 percent or more votes.

The second round of election will be conducted within 10 days after the first election.

Mr. Abugre earned the renomination in the list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)finalized by President Akufo-Addo.

His rejection comes second after Agnes Anamoo of the Nabdam District was rejected by Assembly Members of the area last Thursday.

The confirmation process of other Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region will continue today and throughout the week.
