Two MCE nominees rejected; 6 others confirmed so far in Upper West Region

So far, two Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominees in the Upper West Region have suffered rejection by Assembly Members while six others have been confirmed.

Members of the Lawra Municipal Assembly have rejected the President’s MCE nominee, Martin Bomba-Ire.

The nominee who was re-nominated by the president to serve a second term as MCE for the area got 21 out of 42 valid votes cast; failing to obtain the required two-third majority of the valid votes cast.

The figure represents 50% of the total valid votes cast.

The President’s nominee for the Jirapa Municipality, Christine Bombanye Amadu, has also been rejected by Members of the Jirapa Municipal Assembly.

She polled 31 out of 53 valid votes cast with one spoilt ballot.

Madam Amadu earned re-nomination by the president after serving an initial 4-year term as MCE.

Both the Lawra and Jirapa Municipal Assemblies are expected to reconvene in the next 10 days to decide on the fate of the two rejected MCE nominees.

Meanwhile, the Wa West District Assembly is expected to take its turn tomorrow, 6th October, 2021, to confirm the President’s nominee, Bukari Ali.

Mr Ali currently serves as the Regional Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On Thursday, 7th October, 2021, the Nadowli-Kaleo and Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Assemblies will take their turn.

Already, 6 MDCEs have been confirmed in the Region.

They are; Issahaku Tahiru Moomen for Wa Municipal, Raymond Nero for Nandom Municipal and George Gerard Naluri for Lambussie District.

The rest are; Fuseini Batong for Sissala East Municipal, Dr. Suleman Kandia Mahama for Wa East District and Aysha Batong for  Sissala West District.
