A three-unit classroom block at Kulgo Agusi in Sumbrungu, which missed its June completion deadline due to land-related challenges, is now expected to be completed in August, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo has said.
The project, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is intended to replace a weak and dilapidated classroom facility currently serving the community.
Mr. Ayoo disclosed the new completion timeline during an inspection of Assembly projects across the Bolgatanga Municipality on July 30.
“It was awarded in December, around 29th. And so it was supposed to end in June. But later on, there were land issues here and there. And so that delayed the project,” Mr. Ayoo explained.
Despite the delay, the MCE said he was satisfied with the quality and progress of work on the project.
“I really think that the contractor is doing a lot of good work. You can see that the structure is nicely put up. And I think that the contractor is doing a nice job,” he stated.
According to Mr. Ayoo, the contractor has given assurances that the project will be completed in August.
“And by his way, this will be completed in August. And I hope that he will live by his promise,” he said.
The three-unit classroom block includes an ICT and library facility, staff common room, store, headteacher’s office, four-seater KVIP toilet and a two-unit urinal for boys and girls.
Mr. Ayoo said the project was awarded to Kulgo Agusi as part of efforts to replace the community’s deteriorating classroom infrastructure.
“As part of the Common Fund projects, I decided that we should give this project to this community. This is Kulgo Agusi in Sumbrungu. Sumbrungu has about four electoral areas. And so we decided to award this project so that we can leverage or replace this weak and dilapidated one,” he said.
The MCE said the Assembly would continue to monitor DACF-funded projects to ensure their completion and improve infrastructure across the municipality.
