Upper East Regional Youth Organizer hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jonathan Atuah, has said he has a flaming desire to strengthen the youth wing of the party so the party can maintain power and break the eight-year political hold on power.

The governing party is full of optimism about winning the 2024 general elections, which will make it the first political party to be in governance for more than eight years since the inception of the fourth Republican Constitution.

In an interview on ‘Daybreak Upper East’ show on A1 Radio today, Mr. Atuah indicated that the ‘break the eight’ mantra would not become a reality if the party’s youth base is not augmented; which has occasioned his decision to contest the regional organizer position.

“One of my reasons is to mobilize the youth, to mobilize the grass-root since about 70% of the youth are grass-root so that we can lead the fight towards victory come 2024. I said so in the sense that most political parties especially those that have a weaker youth, is not a party that can win elections and I have recognized that and I have seen the need that we need to mobilize effectively the teeming youth to take charge to gear towards the success of our party,” said Mr. Atuah.

He added that the party needs an exuberant, affable as well as a transparent leader to be able to triumph in the elections, which he believes he is the person well suited for that.

“The Upper East Region, especially the NPP needs a stronger leadership; a leadership that is willing to listen to them, a leadership that is willing to fight for them, a leadership that is willing to make sure that the national cake is shared among the people, if not equally”, the youth activist added.

Mr. Atuah stated that his decision to contest the Regional Youth Organizer position is ultimately influenced by his interest in seeing the party winning the 2024 elections.

Touching on the party’s chances of winning elections, Mr. Atuah expressed confidence that the NPP will maintain power in 2024, thereby ‘breaking the eight’ owing to its performance in governance.

He intimated that the NPP has implemented pro-poor policies which will serve as a boost for it to maintain power.
