NAVASCO wins Bronze at Renewable Energy Challenge

Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO), has raised high the flag of the Upper East high by clinching a bronze medal at the just ended 2021 edition of the National Senior High Schools’ Renewable Energy Challenge.

It could be recalled that the Energy Commission of Ghana in July this year organized a renewable energy challenge for students in various Senior High schools in the nook and cranny of the country for them to unearth their God-given talents on how to use cheap and affordable products to generate energy to tackle energy crises as well as greenhouse emissions.

In the Upper East Region of Ghana, ten Senior High Schools were selected, out of which eight schools participated in the competition, including NAVASCO.

The NAVASCO was represented by Miss Pwasam Shulammite Wemochiga and Miss Mohammed Fadilatu, accompanied by their teacher, Master Sumaila Jafaru, and led by the Upper East Regional Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) Coordinator, Madam Faustina Agetera to the national capital, Accra for this all-important competition.

A brief ceremony was organized at the Regional Education Office, Bolgatanga, to present their award to the Regional Education Director, on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

The Regional Director of Education, Edward K. Azure could not hide his delight with the team’s remarkable performance and encouraged the heroines to always avail themselves for competitions of that nature. He also congratulated Master Sumaila Jafaru on supporting the students to excel.

As part of the awards, the school had a cash prize of Three thousand, eight hundred Ghana cedis whilst the participants took home Three thousand Ghana cedis. Other materials that made up the awards were; 4 Samsung Tablets, 4 sets of Souvenirs, human torso anatomy, One box of 12w LED bulbs, 4 sets of electrical and electronic kits, 10 GAST Integrated Science Textbooks, 20 pieces of LED streetlight from the Ministry of Energy,

A plaque and an all-expense-paid trip to all the power generation centers of the Bui Power Authority. Speaking to A1 RADIO NEWS the Headmistress of Navrongo SHS, Madam Mercy Babachoweh thanked the students for the commitment they showed throughout the competition.

She called on parents and guidance to continue to provide the requisite support to their wards for them to become better persons in the future.

Present at the short ceremony was the Municipal Director of Education for Kasena-Nankana Municipal, Ellen Abeegre-Inga, and some past students of the school popularly known as Nabia, who are working in the Regional Education Office, Bolgatanga.
