A communicator with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East region, Naoh Thomas Yaab popularly known as Citizen Thomas has described the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area in the Volta Region, Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V as a known politician.

On Wednesday 20th October 2021, Torgbui Fiti V gave the Minister of Education a four-month ultimatum to finish a school project in the Aflao area for use.

The school, built during the Mahama administration is almost 90 percent complete, has about 26 classrooms and five departments, including a science block but has stalled since 2016.

In an interview with Accra-based Peace FM, President Akufo-Addo said, most of the schools started by Former President Mahama have been completed by his government.

Hence Torgbui Fiti V is not the one to give the minister an ultimatum to complete the project. In a seemly joking manner, the president asked the chief to go ahead and complete the project.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s current affairs ‘Zina Yela’ program, Citizen Thomas stated that, the response given to the chief by the President was the best because according to him the chief’s approach to the issue was political.

According to the Talensi constituency NPP Deputy Secretary hopeful, the chief could have urged or pleaded with the President to help provide his community with projects but not for him to engage in giving the government an ultimatum to complete projects.

“As a chief, there is a need for you to ask a president or beg him to do something for you or your community, but not for you as a chief to come out and order a President to do what he wants. Where does such chief come from? He is a serial caller, he is a communicator, he is a politician. As for that kind of a chief, the response President Akufo-Addo gave to the serial caller [Torgbui Fiti V] and a communicator of one particular political party was best and perfect.”

Citizen Thomas stressed that uncompleted projects are all over the country and Talensi district is no exception, but the paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area will not give the president an ultimatum to complete those uncompleted projects in his area.

“As I sit here, I don’t think my own Paramount Chief, Tongraan Kugblisong Nanlebegtang will order President Akufo-Addo to come to his land [Talensi] and complete a project for him with a timeline. For instance, the E-Block that is built at Yameriga, it’s not complete, if you don’t complete it by next month, I will not take it kindly with you. This our Paramount Chief that we all know will never agree to say that.”
