Residents of Kandia, a community in the Nwamgubelle Electoral Area of the Sissala West District have appealed for support from government and all other well-meaning organisations and individuals. The community members are appealing for support to complete the construction of a culvert over the Sinaluku stream.

One resident, Mr. Forkah Chiemina Yussif who spoke to A1radio at Kandia mentioned that the culvert broke after heavy rains four years ago. He said attempts by community members to draw the attention of authorities proved futile for years. Mr. Yussif described the situation as very worrying. He said motorists find it extremely difficult using the Buoti-Kandia-Kusali-Kunkorgu-Gwollu stretch of road. The community members, in the bid to remedy the situation, began a community-led action towards resolving the problem.

“While we wait for government’s intervention to fix the culvert, members of the Kandia community have regularly embarked upon spot improvement of portions of the Kusali-Kandia-Buoti road, including the section of the collapsed culvert. This year, we, the community members, decided to construct a temporary culvert to alleviate the suffering travellers go through while using the road,” he said.

He said members of the community have donated generously to the project by contributing to the carting of several trips of boulders to erect a flow over embankment on the Sinaluku stream and procuring 20 bags of cement to reinforce the boulders with concrete. Mr. Yussif has thus appealed for additional bags of cement, some sand and stones and cash to support members of the community finish the project they started.

Meanwhile, MP for Sissala West Constituency, Mr. Mohammed Sukparu has donated 50 bags of cement and an undisclosed amount of money support the community’s drive to complete the project.
