Hearts of Oak were unlucky as they began their title defence with a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians dominated Legon Cities but failed to score as the away side celebrated picking up their first point of the season against the champions.

It was a resolute display by Legon Cities with their goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi, who begged Hearts to sign him during pre-season, deservedly being adjudged man of the match. He made an impressive six saves.

Hearts saw the ball cleared off the line twice in the first half and Ibrahim Salifu struck the cross bar with a brilliant free-kick in the second half.

Maxwell Konadu’s side came close to snatching the winner in the dying seconds but goalkeeper Richard Attah saved the Phobians.

Hearts looked disappointed, but it was the opposite for Legon Cities at the end of the match.

Elsewhere, Ignatius Osei-Fosu suffered a humiliating loss in his first competitive match as Medeama boss as the Yellow and Mauves were thrashed 4-0 by Bechem United.

Bechem took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Emmanuel Avornyo and Francis Twene before the two teams were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of halftime.

The home side returned from the break with the same energy. Avornyo grabbed a brace and Augustine Okrah, who rejoined Bechem early this month, added the fourth.

Also, King Faisal drew goalless with 10-man WAFA in Kumasi and new boys Bibiani Gold Stars made a great start by beating former champions, Berekum Chelsea.

AshantiGold were the only side to win away from home on Sunday afternoon as they beat Eleven Wonders by a lone goal while Karela United and Aduana Stars drew 1-1.
