A member of the Upper East Regional Communication Team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isaac Ayenvoa has made claims that he is privy to information that some qualified university graduates searching for jobs, have to part with huge sum of monies before being employed into organisations within the public sector.
He alleged that due to the quantum of monies demanded, young graduates who are searching for jobs continue to search without success. “Some people who sat for the security agency exams this past Saturday, have paid between thirteen to seventeen thousand Ghana cedis before being really assured of being employed,” he alleged.
Mr. Ayenvoa also added that because the rate of unemployment is high in Ghana, he doubts if the certified unemployed university graduates and others who may be underemployed and partook in the recent recruitment of personnel for security agencies will be engaged.
He shared these concerns with the host of A1radio’s Daybreak Upper East Show, Samuel Mbura. Mr. Ayenvoa expressed concern about the trainees whose contract had ended under government’s Nation Builders Corps (NABCO).
“The NABCO beneficiaries with their three years contract have ended and should come and join the queue again. Let us struggle for occupation. I’m not happy but that is how we have structured our country and that is what is killing us. They [the NPP government] don’t have any clear cut exit plan. If they will be any recruitment join, the queue and let us also apply [to NABCO trainees],” he said.
Meanwhile, a member of the Upper East Regional Communication Team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Samuel Akonga rubbished the unemployment claims made against the current administration. “Government needs commendation. From 2016 to date, graduates exiting from the university are being employed gradually. Graduates couldn’t get employed due to a certain archaic arrangement by the [NDC] government. Aside the ongoing recruitment [security service], government has given clearance to one thousand degree and diploma nurses to be recruited this month.
He continued to say that “the usual propaganda by the NDC is that the economy is static but this same economy keeps employing people”.
