A total of 22,121 candidates are expected to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Upper East Region on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Out of the number, 11,544 are females while 10,577 are males. Mr Nathaniel N-yaaba, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga.
He said the performance of the Region on the league table had not been good, adding that leadership of the GES in the Region was hopeful that the candidates would perform creditably well in this year’s BECE to make the Region proud.
The PRO noted that some of the candidates would be anxious as it was their first preparation for an external examination, and urged them to remain calm, focus, work hard, and not rely on any external support or influence popularly known as ‘Apo.’
He further advised them to ensure that they arrived at the various examination centres early to relax before the actual time of the examination, and was confident that “Per the grooming that the teachers have given to these candidates in the 15 Municipal and Districts, we expect a better outcome this year.”
Some candidates in the Bolgatanga Municipality who spoke to the GNA on their preparations, said even though they were anxious, they believed that with God, they would excel and make their parents happy and proud.
The candidates said they were anxious about Mathematics, English Language and the Integrated Science papers, describing the subjects as difficult, “On my study timetable, I have dedicated much time to these subjects as compared to the rest,” a candidate said.
The week-long examination would see the candidates write Social Studies and French Language on Monday, Mathematics and Basic Design and Technology on Tuesday.
English Language and Religious and Moral Education would be written on Wednesday, Integrated Science and Ghanaian Language on Thursday while Information Communication and Technology would be on Friday.
