More than a hundred girls in the Upper East Region are expected to benefit from education on personal hygiene and the distribution of sanitary pads. The areas in the region to benefit from the project include selected schools in Zuanrungu, Tongo-beo and others in Bolgatanga. The Executive Director of the SHE4G Foundation Vanessa Nimatu Asilgya said it is important that girls, while concentrating on their education are able to attend to their hygiene needs as well. This she explained will boost the confidence of the girls.

“Personal hygiene; that has been our focus for this year. When you educate a girl to the highest level and she has poor personal hygiene, it is not the best,” she explained.

Miss Asilgya said this when she spoke to Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East. She said her organisation has for the past two years, consistently committed resources to improve the lives of girls in the Upper West Region, Savannah Region, Northern Region and other parts of the country.

The SHE4G Foundation has been able to enrol hundreds of girls in both formal and informal areas of education. This, Miss Asilgya said is important to help improve the lives of the girls as they grow into women. In the Eastern Region, the organisation has been able to make strides in addressing the many concerns of teenage pregnancy. “As young as 9 and 10 years, these girls are getting pregnant so I had to just come in and then improve the education on that,” she explained.

She appealed for support from well-meaning organisations and persons in the region to support her organisation achieve its aim.
