Residents in the Upper East Region have expressed mixed feelings about electoral decisions they took at the general election on December 7, 2020. While some residents stood by their decision to give the nod to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), others expressed some traces of regret giving their vote to the NPP. On the other hand, some residents expressed disappointment that their preferred party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could not get the opportunity to govern the state.

They shared these sentiments with Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East today, December 7, 2021.

A caller who gave his name as Citizen Thomas explained that voting for the NPP was the best decision he could have made, expressing no regret in his decision. “I have never regretted it because I am able to charge my phone to call into your programme this morning. Gone are the days when ‘dumsor’ was an issue and your station was one of the organisations that had the challenge. You had to go buy fuel before you can reach your listeners, is it the same today?” he quizzed.

Another resident, Michael, who phoned into the programme to share his thoughts solidarized with the first caller saying “I went in for 4 more to do more, I have not regretted and in 2024, we will break the 8”.

A caller who gave his name as ‘Majority’ expressed disappointment in the government saying “in fact, I have regretted voting for the NPP. I trusted them because of the promises they were giving the people of Ghana. We gave them the mandate and they are disappointing us. They are disappointing us especially those of us in the Teacher Training Colleges. There are six months arrears they have not paid us yet”.

“I voted for the rescue mission, I have not regretted because it [the current situation of the country] has confirmed my position that this government is going to be a mess. It has come to pass that Ghanaians who wanted 4 more [to do more] and said you [NDC] wait and come and rescue us later,” another caller said.

Another suggested that the current government is intensely insensitive and would continue tto reign hardship on Ghanaians.
