Parliament is still unsure about when it will adjourn sittings for the Christmas break. The situation is as a result of current differences between the Majority and Minority groups in Parliament over the approval of the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy as well as the conduct of the First Deputy Speaker and MP for Bekwai Joseph Osei Owusu in the absence of the Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak explained that the return of the Speaker to Parliament is expected to bring finality to issues raised by the Minority group in Parliament.

“He [the Speaker] is back so we all waiting to see and hear what the Speaker of Parliament is going to direct within the context of all that has happened in his absence and then we take it from there,” he said.

Dr. Apaak said that there is no certainty about any of the concerns raised unless the House hears from the “authentic and legitimately elected Speaker that we have in the Republic of Ghana”.

He said while he, as a representative of the people, is not happy about the current impasse within the House, the right decisions must be made to inure to the benefit of the people. “We believe what we are working for is just and fair. We are working in the interest of Ghanaians. Once what we are doing is lawful, we will continue to soldier on,” he insisted.
