We’ll not shield anybody – DCOP Gariba on allegations of arson against police officer

The Upper East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Sayibu Pabi Gariba has given a firm assurance to the people of the Upper East Region that the police has no intention of shielding anyone found culpable in the burning of the house and pub of Madam Faustina Aboba.

Speaking to the media at a Press Soiree in Bolgatanga, DCOP Gariba indicated that his interest is for justice to prevail, the reason for which he instituted an investigation into all the allegations that have been raised by the complainant, Madam Aboba and the police officer alleged to have burnt the house and the pub.

DCOP Gariba said the initial sit-rep and the administrative reports have been completed and forwarded to the National Police Administration for the necessary procedures to begin. He said while he was unable to furnish the media with the details of the report, he could give the assurance that all guilty parties would be made to face the law.

“The woman in question, I know her personally. She has been to my office and home to complain and I authorised an investigation to be done. We have informed headquarters and the initial set-rep has been sent, the administrative report has been finished, and police procedures will kick in. I can assure you that we are not shielding anybody,” he said.

It will be recalled that 36-year-old Faustina Aboba’s pub and apartment were razed down by fire three weeks ago in Tanzui community, a suburb of Bolgatanga allegedly by a police officer named Sergeant Saviour Senaya.

The officer was said to be with the Upper East Regional Police Command and was accused of setting fire to Faustina’s pub and apartment after a misunderstanding broke between him and Faustina sister’s daughter, Eunice who was said to be his lover.

Eunice, according to Faustina is in her early 20s and was dating the officer. When the officer discovered that, Eunice has an ex-boyfriend, the officer went bitter and told Eunice that he will teach her a lesson and as a result burnt her apartment and pub.
