Zuarungu shooting: Police Rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition missing

The Upper East Regional Police Command has said that Service Rifle with number 79209 with 20 rounds of ammunitions booked by Constable Suley Adam, one of the police officers shot by robbers at Zuarungu, cannot be traced.

Constable Suley Adam along with his colleague, Constable Emmanuel Akowuah left for Motorbike Patrol duties with a Service Motorbike and unexpectedly chanced on a robbery scene.

It is said that 8:20 pm, there was a distress call to the Zuarungu District Command that there was an ongoing robbery at Zuarungu Market. Whilst men were being mobilized to respond to the robbery, there was another distress call that two policemen had been shot dead.

A team of Police officers led by the Bolgatanga Divisional Commander Superintendent Dela Dzansi and the Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Reuben Dugah proceeded to the scene of crime and saw a burnt Service Motorbike with registration number GP 2311 packed by the road in front of a provision shop.

The victim of the robbery, Baba Akolgo, a businessmen aged 51, explained to the police that three men entered his provision shop and asked him to surrender his monies at gunpoint and succeeded in robbing him of an amount of GHC 2000.00 and bolted with same.

Meanwhile, the police say the area is not a robbery prone area and are working around the clock to apprehend the criminals.

An eye witness to the shooting of the Police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region, Simon Ayambire said the incident has left residents in the area terrified.
