But for the timely intervention of the Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI), Dr. Sebastien Sandare, in the Upper West Region, a pregnant woman would have lost her life.
The MP has to release his official vehicle to allow for the transportation of a pregnant woman from Challu to the Issa Polyclinic. The situation was narrated by an aide to MP Denis Andaban on his Facebook page.
He wrote’ “it took the timely intervention of the Member of Parliament for Daffiama, Bussie, Issa Hon Dr Sebastian Sandaare to save a pregnant woman who was in a critical condition and this is how it happened. The MP went to Challa in the morning of Friday, 7th January 2022 to meet a women group on their invitation. After meeting the group, he had a call to immediately come to the facility. On getting there, he was informed about a pregnant woman whose condition has become critical at the point of delivery”.
“In his smock, he quickly assessed [the condition of the pregnant woman], set a line for some infusion and recommended immediate referral to the nearest hospital. He further requested the midwife to call the ambulance”.
“Sadly, the ambulance service personnel lamented [about a] complete lack of fuel to render service to the woman. The Ambulance Service personnel further requested that the husband of the expectant mother send money via Momo to buy fuel at Issa to enable them to come and pick the woman. Having no hope of the ambulance coming, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Sabastian Saandaare released his V8 to immediately pick the woman to Issa for further attention. He added Ghc300 to be given to the ambulance personnel to buy fuel and take the woman to the hospital in case she cannot be attended to at Issa at the Issa Polyclinic”.
