Moses Amoah, the Navrongo Central Constituency Secretary has joined Ghanaians to express their disgust and disappointment by the cutting of a cake shaped to read; ‘E-levy’ at the birthday party of the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu. The action has been described as many as distasteful and an affront to the sensibilities of the Ghanaian people.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East, Mr. Amoah said while he held firm suspicions that the cake was given to the Majority Leader by the Minority Group in Parliament to further their own mischievous shenanigans, the cutting of the cake as well as the sharing of pictures and videos of same, at the time when Ghanaians are stiffly opposed to the E-levy, could seem to convey the message that the thoughts and emotions of Ghanaians were being taken lightly.

He continued to say that the explanation being offered by the Majority Leader suggested that he took the cake in jest, as he [the Majority Leader] thought it was a gift from ‘his friends’ from the opposing side, could not be justified.

“These are things that we do not joke about. We simply apologise to the people of Ghana. At this particular moment, the government is running around the county trying to explain the E-levy and appeal to the people of Ghana to accept the E-levy. Certainly, we are going to tax the people and also beg the people to contribute their quota to national development. It is something you need to please with them [the Ghanaian people] to understand”.

“When you are doing all that and then you go and receive a cake with E-levy on it and you are celebrating, it goes to paint a certain picture. If it was the NDC that did that, we in the NDC would have castigated them”.

What we will do is to apologise to the people of Ghana. This was an unfortunate incident that should not have happened. The NPP would not intentionally insult the sensibilities of the good people of Ghana. It was just something that nobody expected. So let us bury it and think about how we can contribute our quota to national development,” he said.
