UE NPP: We’re ready for Polling Station elections – Lawyer Namoo

Lawyer Anthony Namoo, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party says the Regional Secretariat is ready to conduct the Polling Station level election. Processes are expected to begin today, Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Interested candidates are expected to pick up nomination forms between today and Monday, February 21, 2022.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, Lawyer Namoo said “the nomination means people will pick up forms for the five positions they want to occupy at the polling stations”.

At the Polling Station level, positions available are; Polling Station Chairperson, Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser and Women Organiser. Once elected, persons are expected to serve in their respective capacities for 4 years.

 “While nominations are open, people will have the opportunity to go to their polling stations to inspect the membership register, whether their names are there so that they can take part in the elections. The bulk of the members have their names in the Polling Station register but of course, there were guidelines that the General Secretary issued. Some people may not have their names there but if they have party membership cards, they are also eligible to vote,” he said.

Lawyer Namoo continued to say that on the occasion that the said individual has no party ID and does not have his or her name in the register, the person is still eligible to vote the individual is a known party member or can be vouched for by two members of the party with the IDs.

Vetting of interested persons is expected to take place from the 22nd of February to the 24th of February.

The elections are expected to follow immediately after the vetting from 24th February to 5th March 2022. The elections will take place in batches.

Lawyer Namoo called for called during the entire process and reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair process.
