Sissala East: Pick-up truck crushes one female to death, leaves two midwives severely injured

One person has been confirmed dead after a Toyota pick up truck with registration number GV 2626 -14 crashed two motorcycles on the Captain Sawyer Street highway (connecting the Bolgatanga roundabout and the Main roundabout) in the Sissala East municipal capital, Tumu.
The incident happened at around 8:20 pm on February 18, 2022. All the victims except the driver of the Toyota pickup truck are females.
Two of the three females were also identified as midwives of the Tumu municipal hospital.
However, one of them identified as Baduon Hamidu Barikisu, aged 33, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Tumu municipal hospital, while the other midwife also identified as Yaayin Gifty together with a senior high school graduate identified as Sumaila Amina have each sustained various degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Radford newsroom the Tumu Municipal Police Commander, DSP Kumpe Gbele said the driver of the Toyota pickup truck (only identified as Adjaho) has reported himself to the police and would be assisting with investigations.
Sumaila Amina, who sustained a fractured leg and other bruises, with the help of the Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Mohammed Adams Sukparu donated an undisclosed amount of money to the victim and her family, has been transferred to the Upper West regional hospital for further treatment.
Also, Gifty Yaayin is currently receiving medical treatment at the Tumu hospital’s theatre.
The MP said “I’ve heard of the unfortunate incident and had to rush here to ascertain the situation”, he said this during his interaction with the Municipal Police Commander.
However, the remains of late Baduon Hamidu Barikisu has since been transported to Nyemeti, her hometown for burial.
