With the recent commentary surrounding the Bolgatanga Airport and when the Region will have its first Airport, the Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka has noted that it is long overdue for region to have an airport considering the region’s long existence along with its vibrant local economy.
According to Mr. Avoka, the 15 members of Parliament in the region would meet the Minister of Transport to question him what plans are available towards constructing the region’s first Airport.
Speaking on the DayBreak Upper East show on A1 Radio, the Legislator explained that, the Upper West was carved out from the Upper East Region and but currently has a functioning airport with plans to build a new one, but the latter, is still struggling to get one which according to him is a disappointment and a shame on leadership.
“We are an older region than the Upper West Region and they have not just an airstrip but an airport that is a disgrace to us, it is a challenge to us in the Upper East Region. We should unite and then work for the region,” he stated.
Meanwhile, he blamed the slow-motion that has characterised the building on a airport in the region on NPP – led government stating, “I was made to understand that, there was a conflict on where it should be situated others were saying it should be in Sirugu and others were saying Sumbrungu, that is NPP Politics for you, trying to divide the region”.
He, therefore, called on the leadership to come together and help in getting the airport for the Region to help ease the discomfort locals face in travelling on a 13hour long journey to Accra and other cities in the country.
