A senior communicator with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has been vindicated by the Road Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta’s comments regarding the usage of the e-levy if approved.

The communicator on Tuesday, 2 March 2022 noted that one of the reasons the governing party was bent on implementing the electronic transaction was because they wanted to use it as collateral for a loan.

Mr Paul Danka who spoke on the Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio added that not only did the government plans to do that, but it has already advanced its plans and knew where to go for the loan.

He said “what the government wants is the go-ahead because plans in this e-levy have already advanced per the way the finance minister and the economic management team are doing. Let’s wait and see.”

True to the communicator’s words, the Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, on the floor of Parliament on Friday, disclosed that the government will use the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy if approved to secure loans for road infrastructure in the country.

The minister added that the government in its wisdom has proposed the passage of the E-levy to realize more developments including the road sector.

He said “Mr Speaker, you know how important proper road infrastructure plays in our economic growth. So the government is looking forward to the passage of the E-levy that will bring in greater revenue which will be used to raise bond if possible to build the road infrastructure.”
