It has come to light that the Talensi District Assembly is in debt up to the tune of Ghc3 million. Some of the debts go as far back as 2012.

These debts are owed to, mainly, contractors and other businesses who, have in the past, provided the Assembly with products or services and businesses who continue to do same.

The DCE for Talensi, Thomas Pearson Wuni said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, today, Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

The situation, according to the DCE, has become an albatross on the neck of administrators of the Assembly.

Mr Pearson Wuni explained that due to the high level of indebtedness, the Assembly has had to split funds that come in its coffers. The funds are split 60:40. 60 per cent would go into “pressing new projects” while the remaining 40 per cent goes into continuing and completing already existing projects.

“Sometimes, you call the contractors and ask them, whether if they get small money they can continue with the projects. If they say yes, we try and find the money for them to do so,” he explained.

Mr. Pearson Wuni said, while still in office, he would focus heavily on finishing already existing projects rather than start new ones he know he will not be able to complete.
