The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Sampson Tangombu has shot down the suggestion asking Members of Parliament to agree to pay cuts. The suggestion, made by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was to help MPs show leadership in the era of crisis and also help the country out of the economic dump it finds itself in.

He said the 20 per cent proposed cuts would realize amounts too inconsequential to fix the problems of the country. To this end, Mr. Tangombu said the cuts on the salaries of the MPs would be needless.

“Imagine 20% out of my salary is Ghc5,000.00. Tell me what exactly that money will do to help cushion the lives of my people. It is not about salary cutting. You see, these people have mismanaged the country’s economy. And I must say that the finance minister should have resigned or been sacked because he has no knowledge of what he’s doing. He lacks the competence and expertise to be a finance minister,” he said.

The Navrongo Central Lawmaker took swipes at the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP), describing its economic management team and the Minister for Finance as “too arrogant”.

Mr. Tangombu said the government has failed to properly manage the country’s economy.

According to the MP, the brief presentation made by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta on measures taken to address the country’s economic challenges further exposes his weak and incompetent style of managing the economy.

Mr Tangombu who spoke on the Daybreak Upper East Show, on A1 Radio indicated that the 15 pesewas fuel cut was one of the most ridiculous ideas the Minister could ever implement as that 15 pesewas cannot even buy sachet water.

“Can 15 pesewas even buy pure water? We are saying that they should take off the petroleum levy. This Minister does not know what he’s doing. He has failed this country yet failed to plead with the people of Ghana for his gross incompetency,” he said.

“This man thinks that he knows everything. When you call him to appear before Parliament and answer some questions related to the economy, he will not come. He thinks that he knows everything. And that is where we are as a country”, he stressed.

The MP however called on Ghanaians to be patient as they as minority MPs were doing everything possible to put to path the rightful measures that can help grow the economy.
