PNC optimistic E-Levy will foster Ghana’s economic development

The opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) has welcomed the passage of the electronic transaction levy, saying it would help transform the country.

The parliament of Ghana has on Tuesday 29th March 2022 passed the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy in the absence of the Minority MPs, who had walked out before the Bill was considered at the second reading stage.

The Minority had complained that it had been taken by surprise by the unexpected consideration of the levy as the E-levy was not listed in Parliament’s business statement for this week.

A press statement signed by the General Secretary of the PNC, Madam Janet Asana Nabla and copied to A1 News said, taxation across the globe was the avenue countries depended on to generate income for developmental purposes.

She said the new tax measure was geared towards addressing the rising debts, creating jobs for the teeming youth, addressing infrastructural challenges, improving the transportation system, extending loans to the private sector and young entrepreneurs, etc.

The party in the statement also applauded the government for acknowledging the hardship the ordinary Ghanaian is facing and agreed to cut the salaries of government appointees and reduce government expenditure to support the economy.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) also noted that, the party believe in agriculture for that matter it is very important for the government to invest more in the sector by providing dams in order to aid all year run farming in the country.
