Anthnoy Namoo says skirmishes at Polling Station level Elections won’t be repeated at Constituency Elections

The governing New Patriotic Party is confident that the skirmishes and misunderstandings that characterized the Polling Station Level Elections would not be repeated as the party readies itself for the Constituency Level Elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Lawyer Anthony Namoo said the processes have been updated to make it easier at the Constituency level. He also explained that due to the highly verifiable nature of the numbers of delegates that are expected to vote at the Constituency level, there should be less pandemonium.

“The ball game is different. At the Constituency level, you have 5 polling station executives of each polling station, plus one electoral area coordinator for each electoral area. The number [expected to vote] is highly ascertainable,” he explained.

He also added that due to the revised rules, the elections would be supervised by the Electoral Commission instead of the party executive. Mr. Namoo said this eliminated the possibility that some executives would deliberately sabotage others “because of their own interest”.

“At the Constituency level, we will have a fewer number [delegates]. If you look at the Polling Station Elections, we were dealing with almost 8 thousand people. At the Constituency level, we are going to be electing 160 people,” he said.

Mr. Namoo called for calm and decorum ahead of the elections which have been slated for April 22, 2022.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has thanked the largest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Members in Parliament for ‘helping’ to fine-tune the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy).

Speaking on the A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper Show, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Anthony Namoo said the passage of the E-levy Bill into law would help foster development in the country.

He went ahead to thank the NDC for helping bring the E-levy to life.

“I will thank the Minority too for helping. Even though they helped, the hawks amongst them later tried to repudiate what they did. Nevertheless, we thank them for assisting in this. The E-levy was 1.75 per cent. It was through their intervention that it came to 1.5 per cent and so to some extent, they have always been helpful,” Mr Namoo said.
