Joseph Adongo, the MCE for the Kassena Nankana Municipality (KNM) has admitted that the ongoing Multipurpose Youth and Sports Centre of Excellence in Navrongo; the capital of the KNM has been unduly delayed.
Mr Adongo said while the first phase of the project has been finished, it is difficult to say what the scope of the next stage is, and when it would be finished.
Mr Adongo said this in response to the MP for Navrongo Central, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia’s claim that the project has been taken over by pigs in the area. Both the MCE and the MP were speaking in different interviews on the same platform; the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio.
“Anyone who knows that place, [knows that] when you get there, you cannot get inside unless the watchman comes to open it for you. It has been long overdue. It was started a long time ago and the time period has expired,” the MCE admitted.
Mr Adongo said when he reached out to the contractor in charge of the project, the contractor mentioned some delays in the procurement of funds used in the first phase of the project as major reasons for the delay in the project.
- Navrongo: KNM Assembly begins collection of property rates from over 2 million properties – MCE
- Kassena Nankana Municipal: DACF not enough; also in arrears – MCE
- Kassena Nankana Municipal: Assembly committed to raising Ghc2m in IGF per annum – DCE
The MCE said while he is unable to ascertain the exact progress of work done at the site, he is able to confirm that work is far advanced. Again, Mr Adongo said the contractor had given him a firm assurance that work on the project would continue within the shortest possible time.
