Dr Clement Apaak, the MP for Builsa South has committed a total sum of Ghc11,300 to fix the deteriorated Fumbisi-Kanjaga-Doninga road.

The support came to light when the youth of the area mobilized themselves for communal labour to fix the said road over the weekend. The road, the residents alleged was awarded in 2015 by the erstwhile John Mahama administration with funding support from cocoa roads.

But after losing power in 2016, the road contract was abrogated and re-awarded to a different contractor by the governing party, NPP. Since then, the said contractor has never set foot on the site.

Given that, the MP for the area has raised Ghc6,300 seed capital including other expenditures for work to begin on the road.

The personal assistant of the MP, Samson Samari made this known to the Press.

“The Member of Parliament has paid GHc2,800.00 for the services of PAC Group, owners of a grader to dig and pile gravel to assist in gravelling the road. In addition, he also donated GHc5,000.00 towards the road works during the Feok festival. he made the following additional expenses directly and, via the Chief of Kanjarga such as GHc 1,500.00 for fuel for the grader for a day via the chief, GHc2,000.00 for transport of the grader via the Chief. If we add the earlier donation of GHc5000 to the recent GHc6300 expenses, the M.P has supported the road works with GHc11,300.00 so far,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DCE for the Builsa South District in the Upper East Region, Daniel Kwame Gariba is unhappy about the nature of the roads in his area. Mr Gariba admitted that to properly tap into the agriculture potential area, particularly in the production of rice, roads within the district need fixing.

The DCE’s concern about the roads is even exacerbated by the unending delay in the construction of the Fumbisi – Uwasi and the Fumbisi – Kanjaga roads.]

To this end, some preliminary work is expected to begin on the Fumbisi – Kanjaga road. The road development would be led by the Builsa South District Assembly.

He said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Friday, May 6, 2022.
