Suspected arms dealer fueling Bawku conflict arrested on Bolga-Tamale road

The Bolgatanga Divisional Police Command on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 acting on intelligence has arrested a suspected illegal arms dealer, Cliffort Dinka on Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway.

At the time of the arrest, Mr Dinka was in the process of selling arms to a customer.

This was contained in a statement signed and copied to A1 News by the Upper East Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Fianko-Okyere.

“A combined motorbike and vehicle patrol teams from the division monitored and arrested the suspect who is a native of Bawku alleged to be a supplier of arms and ammunition to fuel the Bawku conflict,” the statement read.

The statement went on to say that “a search conducted in his room at Zorbisi revealed one unmarked foreign pistol, two jack knives, a cutlass, and a suspected plastic AK 47 toy rifle. The suspect is now in police custody, assisting investigations, but the alleged customer managed to escape. The suspect will be put before the court in due course as efforts are underway to arrest the suspected customer.”

The police called on the public who have any information regarding the suspect and his activities to “report same to the nearest Police Station or call Police emergency numbers 191/18555 or 0299203644/45 and 02992204666 to assist investigations.”
