The DCE for the Binduri District in the Upper East Region, Ayinga Yakubu Abagre has expressed worry over what he described as ineffective policing in the district.

Mr. Abagre said, the district remains highly insecure because of the ineffectiveness of the police in conducting patrols, following up on intelligence and in apprehending criminals. The ineffective of the police is a result of the inadequacies in resourcing the police.

According to the DCE, there are inadequate police officers in the area. This means that there are very few police available to help increase patrol and visibility.

“The district in its quest to continue to provide and enhance security in the area has constructed a befitting police station for the Ghana Police Service at Avoondaago. This to ensure the continuous presence of the police in the district to ward-off criminal elements within the district and to instil law and order in the district.”

“However, let me state that the district police service is bedevilled with inadequate police personnel. The entire district has only four (4) police officers running the affairs of security in the district. This is nothing to write home about”

The Binduri District Chief Executive Mr. Abagre, therefore, appealed to the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu to help address the current security situation in the district.

“It is my humble plea that if the district could be supported with more police personnel to manage issues of security in the district effectively. It is also a fact that the police cannot be effectively visible in the district without a means of transport. I want to use this opportunity to request that if the police service could be provided with an official vehicle, it will enable them to increase their visibility,” he added.

This came to light when the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu paid a working visit to the district.

Whilst addressing staff of the Binduri Assembly and other opinion leaders in the district, the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu pledged to help address the numerous challenges in the district.

According to the Regional Minister, who is a native of the Binduri district, the development of the area is paramount to him. He will make sure the people of Binduri will get the needed development.
