The Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Upper East Region, Casper Sunday Kampoli has stated that the NDC is happy about the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional executive election which was held last week Friday.

He said the current crop of executives does not have anything new in terms of strategy to help the party since most of them led the party into the 2020 general elections.

The NPP lost three of its parliamentary seats to the NDC in the 2020 general elections and won only one out of the fifteen seats in the Upper East Region.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Kasper alleged that the NPP’s election was full of money and the highest bidder won.

“As I said, the highest bidder won. It was full of money. They bought their positions. Last week I was here, one of the second Vice-Chairman who won, Moses was here and after listening to him I was like I wish he wins. Because, the narratives his colleagues who were in office sold to the people of Upper East are the same narratives he is repeating and those narratives led to them losing three seats and having only one. So we are happy that chairman Namoo has been maintained. We are happy that Figo has moved from Deputy Secretary to Secretary, the Women’s Organizer has been maintained, Salahudeen as the Regional Youth Organizer, What did they bring, strategy wise?”

Backing his statement of vote-buying, Mr. Kampoli said if delegates were voting based on hard work, the old stock of the executives were supposed to lose the election.

But, the Upper East Regional Director of Communication for the NPP, Sanusi Issah denied the allegation of vote-buying at last Friday’s election. He said the election was free and fair devoid of any violence.

“We had a successful election, a very peaceful one and free of rancour, and acrimony. It was a free and fair election and at the end of the day, the NPP as a political party in the Upper East Region and for that matter Ghana won on Friday. Everybody went about his campaign peacefully without attacking people’s personalities. You know sometimes if you don’t have the message you go about attacking people like what the NDC do. They don’t have an alternative. I always tell them that somebody who is yet to cross the river, you don’t insult the crocodile that it’s ugly. That is why we are saying that this is an allegation and nobody will come and tell you the evidence.”
