George Fredua, a Timber Inspector with the Timber Industry Development Department (TIDD), a division under the Ghana Forestry Commission in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region has expressed disappointment in all the telecommunication network companies in Ghana for failing to extend their support to the government and other stakeholders toward the Green Ghana Day.

While commending concerned individuals and organisations for collective efforts towards realizing the day, Mr. Fredua berated the telecommunication network companies for the seeming apathy and disinterest in the entire exercise.

He spoke to A1 Radio on the sidelines of a ceremonial exercise that would see to the planting of some 5 million mahogany plants in Bongo Namoo. It forms part of the TIDD’s self-initiated Namoo Mahogany Project, an exercise that complements the national Green Ghana Day.

“I must say I am disappointed in the network companies of Ghana; talk of the MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo and the rest. I am disappointed with them. With such a great programme going on here, they could not even send text messages to the phones of various people reminding and urging them to go out and plant trees.”

“Most of the time, they send unnecessary messages to our phones. The messages have no value. If the government of Ghana is doing such a thing in Namoo, Accra, Suyani, could they not send text messages to people to remind them?”

“The network companies are not doing anything to help reforestation in Ghana,” he said.
