The Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region upon receiving cost receipts from the family of the Karimenga shooting victim for the past week has failed to reimburse them.
The family claims that the police initially gave the indication that they were going to cater for the costs of the treatment. However after receipts of the treatment were presented to the police, they have not been forthcoming with regard to the payment of the costs.
A source within the family who spoke to A1 Radio indicated that after presenting the receipts to the police, they were yet to receive a tangible message from them.
“The police that day told us that their accountant has travelled. Ever since, we have not had any information from them. We sent the receipts on 14/06/2022. It was a Tuesday, last week and for almost a week now, nothing is happening. They even told us that we should stop talking to the media. As they were supporting us but after we start talking to the media they will no longer support us. I don’t know why.”
He explained further that the family has spent Ghc8,175.36 on their sister’s health; both from the hospital and the traditional bullet specialist who removed the bullets.
He said, “please the total cost with receipts is ghc5,675.36. Then the removal of the bullets at Diare(shrine) cost us ghc1500.00. Feeding and Fueling too cost ghc1000.00. Now, the grand total cost is ghc8,175.36. As we stand we borrow the money for these things and now they are on us to pay back so they can use it to do their farming activities.”
All efforts to get the police’s response at the time of filing this report proved futile.
