The Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University has inducted Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Professor Alnaa joined the then Bolgatanga Polytechnic in 2007 as a Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor in Economics in 2016. He also held numerous positions; from Dean of students to Vice-Rector. He was influential in leading the institution to its current status as Technical University.

Speaking at the investiture, the newly inducted Vice-Chancellor noted that, the task associated with his new office was not going to be easy but with the support of colleague Professors and most importantly the Governing Council it will help in putting the University unto the global map.

He stated that “becoming a Vice-Chancellor is an uphill task but being a Vice-Chancellor is a daunting downhill task. Getting down this hill may take four to eight years, but how one gets down this hill is what matters most. I have, therefore, taken it upon myself to leave behind tracks worthy of emulation in my downhill descend.”

“I come into the high office of the University with a strategic vision; to position the university as a world-class technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institution, with innovative academic programmes and training our graduates with twenty-first-century skills.”

According to Professor Alnaa, his vision for the University is driven by six interrelated thrusts which seek to address the challenges facing the University.

Key amongst his vision includes; acquiring cutting-edge instructional facilities to enhance teaching and learning, strengthening ICT and Internet systems for virtual library and smart lectures halls, developing quality and relevant graduate/postgraduate programmes in agriculture, and Technical and Vocational training.

Also, to introduce demand-driven short courses in vegetable farming, business management, auto mechanics garment making, recruit and retain very qualified staff, strengthen staff capacity building programmes as well as expand students’ halls of residence leveraging on public-private partnership.

He, therefore, used the occasion to call on all stakeholders to come on board to help in steering the affairs of the University and bring to bear the vision he outlined.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University in the Upper East Region, Professor Francis Abantanga charged graduands of the 10th congregation to defy the odds of unemployment and change their lives positively.

According to the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University, even though graduate unemployment continues to soar in Ghana, graduates could break the long-standing challenge of unemployment by putting into practice, the entrepreneurial skills they learned during their time of study in school.
