The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University in the Upper East Region, Professor Francis Abantanga has charged graduands of the 10th congregation to defy the odds of unemployment and change their lives positively.

According to the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University, even though graduate unemployment continues to soar in Ghana, graduates could break the long-standing challenge of unemployment by putting into practice, the entrepreneurial skills they learned during their time of study in school.

Professor Abantanga stated that “unemployment can be very frustrating but you must defy the odds of unemployment and change your lives by bringing on board your entrepreneurial skills. Take advantage of Youth Enterprise Schemes and put together the brilliant ideas you have accumulated over the years to be able to attract funding and actualize your dreams.”

He added that “it is my prayer that, you will continue to work hard and humble yourselves and to take responsibility for your actions and be the change you want to see in this world. Do remember that, hard work and honesty pay. Also do not forget of your alma mater when you eventually make it in life.”

The 10th Congregation saw a total number of 441 graduands out of which 69 are Bachelor of Technology graduands.

On his part, Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister charged graduands to emulate the examples of the many successful Ghanaian entrepreneurs.

He stressed that “some of these distinguished personalities were not as privileged as you but built highly successful; businesses from almost nothing. They had clear visions and raised up to the task in the face of numerous challenges that confronted them but the overarching attribute of their success was that they persevered.”

“The era of post-graduate guaranteed employment is long gone you will know have to fashion out your own destiny. The times we live in now call for creativity, thinking outside the box and a can-do spirit. There is indeed limited room for conventionally thinking. These are the essential ingredients to success in whatever you choose to do and hence do not be afraid to be different,” he added.

Mr. Yakubu assured the Bolgatanga Technical University of the government’s support to ensure that, the school continues to churn out highly professional and world-class graduates who will help fix the problems of the Region and the country at large.
