Members of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East region are demanding an unqualified apology from former press secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor over what they have described as distasteful and disrespectful comments made about chairman of the party’s council of elders C.K. Tedam.

Chairman of the council of elders of the NPP claims Afoko was suspended because he failed to call National Executive Committee meetings among others. He accused the embattled chairman of being arrogant for allegedly walking out on them on several occasions.

Andrew Awuni in an interview on Accra based TV station Viasat 1, Monday accused C.K Tedam of peddling lies to disgrace suspended National Chairman Paul Afoko.

“I feel sorry for him. He is lying. I’m not sure C.K Tedam knows Afoko’s house.” Awuni said.

He further stated that the procedures used in suspending Paul Afoko were flawed and illegal while commending the embattled chairman for being the first to hold series of meetings and hence C.K. Tedam’s assertions cannot be true.

“Let the oldmen stop lying,” Awuni told host Bernard Avle.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Thursday, a member of the NPP communication team in the Upper East region Osman Kariyaba said the former press secretary should apologize for calling C.K. Tedam a “liar” or incur the wrath of members of the party in the region. According to him, C.K. Tedam’s assertions cannot be untrue considering his long standing experience in dealing with issues of the party that has gotten him the enviable position as chairman of the council of elders of the party.

“Andrews Awuni should apologize and should not think that we will let the matter rest. Even if the whole of NPP does not have issues with him, we the NPP here in the region will have issues with him” he told Azongo Albert.

Meanwhile members of the party in the Bongo constituency where Andrews Awuni hails from in a statement issued Wednesday also called on the former press secretary to tone down his public outburst on the suspension of the party’s chairman.

“We will like to use this opportunity to appeal to our role model and father Mr. Andrews Awuni to tone down on the public outburst at the Flagbearer of the Party, Nana Addo and other party elders for supporting the decision to suspend Mr. Afoko indefinitely.

We the young ones in Bongo his homeland look up to him and he should bear it at the back of his mind that we are solidly behind him to come back home and rescue as from the cold hands of this wicked and unappreciative NDC government  to the people of Bongo” the statement said.
