A rice processing factory is being set up in Fumbisi in the Builsa South District of the Upper East Region. The factory’s construction is facilitated by the Minister of Trade and Industry (MoTI) through the Rural Enterprise Project.

The factory would be expected to purchase rice, at a fair price, from local farmers, process and then package the rice for sale.

When complete, the factory, to be managed by the youth, would complement the efforts of the privately owned rice processing factory in the same area.

This came to light when Daniel Kwame Gariba, the DCE for the Builsa South area spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

“We have already trained and equipped 50 young people who will be managers of this rice factory.”

“What eventually we are doing in this rice sector which I am talking about is creating a lot of jobs. The benefits that come through the value chain are so enormous just in Builsa South alone,” he said.

Mr. Gariba commended the owners of the private rice factory and called for more private investment in the area. He said over the last 4 years, a lot of work has gone it expanding the rice valleys in the area and creating an enabling environment for private investment in rice to grow.
