Rex Asanga, the MCE for the Bolgatanga Municipality has made a passionate appeal for well-meaning organisations and individuals to support the Assembly address the furniture needs of schools within the Municipality.

It would be recalled that the Bolgatanga MCE’s Special Initiative Committee was launched early this year. Chaired by Professor David Millar, Vice-Chancellor for the Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies, the committee is working voluntarily and is expected to identify critical needs of the Municipality, formulate and package same for donor support.

The Committee is also to use social media and other forms of communication to attract funding for such identified projects to be executed.

While some funds have come in and supported the construction of some furniture, to be donated later, the support is inadequate.

“They [the furniture] may not be many but we just want to make a point that we have the responsibility to support. Everyone; if you are a businessman, if you are a civil servant or whatever, just give the Assembly one desk.”

“I am using this forum to appeal that those who have our children at heart, don’t let us just complain. Yes, we can complain but we should be able to point out that yes, the situation is not good but I have done this so the government or the Assembly should also do this. Then you are communicating,” he said.

Mr. Asanga admits that the enthusiasm he envisaged is not what has been realized.

“I have not seen the kind of enthusiasm that I was expecting. Since we launched it, I have not seen that much enthusiasm so it is just basically, the members on the platform who are making contributions. We haven’t seen people calling and saying we want to be part of this.”
