Residents in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have been schooled on the importance of the Community Foundation. The Community Foundation is a project instituted by Pure Trust Foundation, a Non-Profit Organization based in Tamale, the Northern Regional.

Speaking at the Community Foundation Forum in Bongo, the Chief Executive Officer of Pure Trust Foundation Habib Haruna said, the Community Foundation aims at bringing people within the community together for common goals in the area of development.

According to Mr. Haruna, all well-meaning community members who are development-oriented should support such foundations. He mentioned that Pure Trust Foundation’s Community Foundation has been a vehicle for philanthropy; a medium for persons in the diaspora to help in solving their communities’ problems.

“We always said give back to society but society is large but this one. We say give back to your community so that you can make a great difference in the development of the community. If you give back to your community, you are showing leadership. Community members will recognize that you have not forgotten about the community.”

“The Community Foundation is an independent organization which can contribute to development. We are not coming to look for government to do things. It is a movement. We promote active citizenship and build citizen movements that can see to the development of Bongo.”

“This is for every human being living in the Bongo district; whether you are a Ghanaian or non-Ghanaian, once you live in the community we all have things to do. It doesn’t matter. You can contribute ideas, knowledge, money or strength for the development of the communities.”

Mr. Haruna charged the community to ensure the Foundation succeeds beyond the day of the inauguration.

“They should be able to get the board set because with the board in place, they have the experts to help with ideas, knowledge and resources. They should also get their management team in place and should be register [the Foundation] as well as get office space where people can reach out to them.”

The yet-to-be inaugurated Community Foundation’s Committee Chairman Pastor Wilson Anangine noted that the committee will make sure they work very hard to ensure there is an effectively constituted foundation that will help the development of Bongo.

Pastor Anangine use the opportunity to call on residents of the district to join the foundation for the betterment of Bongo through the community foundation drive.
