Emmanuel Akolgo, the Assembly member for the Bongo Beo-Tankoo Electoral Area is bitter about the state of roads in his area. Bongo-Beo is located within the eastern sector of Bongo. Mr. Akolgo’s electoral area is one of the two electoral areas within the area.

“To be frank with you, we do not have roads. There is only one road. On the Kongo-Bolga road, when you get the Kongo Catholic Church, there is a junction there. That is the road that is leading to Akayongo … and that takes you to Bongo Soe. That is the onyl road and it was there before we were born.”

Mr. Akolgo said this when he spoke on the Day Break Upper East Show in a recent interview. He was speaking about the many challenges that his electoral area.

He continued to say, “for the location of Beo, we find ourselves in the middle of many rivers so getting to the capital town of Bongo, we find it difficult. We can use about 10 minutes ride [if the roads were good] but now we use 2 hours.”

The situation is exacerbated when it rains. Mr Akolgo disclosed that for residents who may want to go into town from Beo, “unless you go to Adaboya and then you get to Bongo-Soe side and then you curve before you can get to Bongo.”

“When you want to take a shortcut, you can’t because when it rains, there is no way you can cross the river. Even when it hasn’t rained, cars cannot pass through that. Getting to Bongo, the district capital, is very difficult.”
